What Does a Notary Public Do?



A notary public is appointed by the state government to serve an an impartial witness for the signing of important documents.  This includes

  • screening the signers
  • determining the signer is willing to sign and not under duress or being intimidated
  • ensuring that the signer understands what they are signing
  • witnessing the signature
